A personal site, not a product page
Hi, I'm Daniel
I work in application support, but a lot of what I have learned about networking and integration is trial and error, lots of breaking things and fixing things and finding the best solutions that best suit my environment.
Most of my learning is hands-on. I'd rather set something up, break it, figure out why, and rebuild it properly than just read about it. Each project I undertake has a specific purpose, either as a learning opportunity to gain skills and knowledge or to better my life and give me more control over my online footprint.
What I spend time on
The useful kind of messing about
VoIP Infrastructure & SIP Communications Platform
A fully built VOIP system allowing me to make and receive calls, both within my home and to the outside world
Microsoft Exchange Mail Server with SMTP Relay
Designed and deployed a self-hosted Microsoft Exchange environment with SMTP relay integration, secure HTTPS publishing, and enterprise-style mail flow configuration. This project provided hands-on experience with Exchange administration, DNS authentication, and secure email infrastructure within a fully self-managed homelab environment.
Enterprise Infrastructure & Homelab
The start of my home lab and learning experience
Application Delivery & Load Balancing
A deployed load balancer handling traffic from mail servers and websites
Disaster Recovery & Backup Strategy with Veeam
Designed and implemented a resilient backup and disaster recovery solution using Veeam Backup & Replication within a self-hosted homelab environment. The project follows the 3-2-1 backup strategy (onsite, offsite, and offline backups) to protect critical infrastructure including virtual machines and core services, with regular restore testing to ensure data integrity and recovery readiness.
